Host of the new Binge reality show FBoy Island Abbie Chatfield has said it isn’t ‘a serious show’.

However, some serious conversations are being had about the show that calls out Australian men for their ‘f**k boy’ behaviour.

This includes one of the leading ladies of the show, Ziara Rae, opening up about the struggles she faces dating as a black woman, and how many men fetishise her.

Rae told Refinery29 Australia that she often receives comments about her race from men, with one in particular sticking with her where a man said: ‘You’re like Rihanna, I’ve never been with a black girl before’.

The 21-year-old said comments like this are ‘pretty crappy’ and that she would never discriminate someone because of their race or background.

She added: ‘You’ll see on this show, I really don’t have a type. I’m here to give everyone a go… I don’t care what you look like or what background you are. I really do not discriminate.’

The Sydneysider said she has always faced racism living in Australia, and was bullied at school because of her skin colour.

When Rae started modelling, the 21-year-old said she faced lots of microaggressions from casting agents, especially about her naturally afro-textured hair.

‘I think in the US and the UK, they’ve got hair and makeup artists that are more equipped to work with people of colour,’ she said.

‘Australia needs to kind of get with the program a bit, and offer workshops around 4C hair to emerging artists.’

FBoy Island will follow Rae along with two other women, Sophie Blackley and Molly O’Halloran, in their quest to find love.

Over 10 episodes, they will be introduced to 24 suitors.

However, the twist is that half of the men are self-confessed ‘f**k boys’ while the others are actually on the show to find love, and the women have to try and pick the good ones out of the bunch.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Ziara said she didn’t expect the show to be so ‘full on’.

‘We have got to keep coming back to the conclusion that half of the guys are here for the money and half are here for a genuine connection but I do think that I could definitely reform an Fboy,’ she said.
