A new report from ClearForMe indicates women use an average of 168 ingredients across 12 products during their beauty regimen every day.
The ingredient transparency platform, which counts Ulta Beauty, Olaplex and, most recently, Amazon, among its roughly 400 beauty partners, aims to help consumers decode these ingredients and their functions via clickable ingredient lists.

In tracking the fastest-growing skin care ingredients by consumer inquiries across different markets, ClearForMe founder and chief executive officer Sabrina Noorani found that “natural, moisturizing ingredients are priority for U.S. consumers,” with inquiries about almond oil, aloe vera and avocado oil in cleansers and moisturizers rising to the top.
European consumers, meanwhile, are seeking out chemical ingredients more rapidly than natural ones via ClearForMe. “This could be because European ingredient regulations are stronger than in the U.S. — consumers have a higher confidence that chemical names are probably OK for them,” Noorani said. In East Asia — where ingredient trends often originate — medicinal and anti-inflammatory ingredients like ginseng and bamboo extract dominate.
